Mechipchamooech
Nova Scotia, Canada, January, 2011
In the middle of the winter, these honey bees left their hives and died in the snow. Naturally, not all bees in a colony survive winter, but the current rate at which bee colonies collapse has raised a global alarm. The title of this work, Mechipchamooech, is the word for bee in the language of the Micmac Indians, the indigenous people of Nova Scotia, Canada.
